Hallo und happy September!
Welcome to the German newsletter for September 2026. Spring has arrived here in Australia – blossoms, longer days, and that lovely lighter feeling in the air. In Germany, the Oktoberfest is in full swing and autumn is just around the corner. And for many of my students, a big chapter has just closed: the orals are done. What a relief! The final exams are now just around the corner, so it’s the home stretch.
In this edition: some proud-teacher news, a fun read about German brands, new resources, a grammar tip, and a hidden gem. I hope you enjoy it! 💛
Proud Teacher Moment 🏆
I have to share this one.
Two of my Year 11 students came first in course in their German language schools this term. I am so proud of them – of the hard work, the courage to speak German out loud, and the consistency that got them there.
Moments like this are the reason I love teaching.
Congratulations, you two! 🎉
Oral Exams Done – Finals Are next 🎓

To all my IB and HSC students: well done on getting through your orals! Speaking German under exam pressure is a real achievement, so take a moment to be proud of that.
Now it’s time to focus on the final exams, and there is still time to make a real difference. If you’d like some last support, there is still time to book your final sessions with me before the exam date. We can use them for the written papers, exam expressions, listening and reading strategies, or anything that still feels shaky. Spots are limited, so please get in touch soon.
In the meantime, these guides will help with your written preparation: German Written Exam Expressions: A B1/B2 Guide for HSC & IB German → https://germanwithnadia.com.au/german-written-exam-expressions/
New Blog Post – Beyond BMW
Everyone knows German cars. But open your wardrobe, your bathroom cabinet or your kitchen, and you might be surprised how many everyday brands come from Germany. In my newest blog post, I share some of the well-known brands you probably didn’t realise were German – a fun one to read with the whole family, and a great way to spot German in everyday life.

Hidden Gem of the Month: Bamberg

While everyone thinks of Munich in Oktoberfest season, I’d like to take you to Bamberg, a small city in Bavaria with a beautifully preserved old town that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Picture colourful houses along the river, a town hall built right in the middle of the water, and cosy taverns serving the local speciality, Rauchbier (smoked beer).
Grammar Tip of the Month: Sowohl … als auch – Sound Instantly More Advanced ✨

Double connectors give your writing and speaking a polished feel, and they impress examiners in both IB and HSC.
Ich lerne sowohl Grammatik als auch Vokabeln. – I’m learning both grammar and vocabulary.
Die Prüfung ist nicht nur schwer, sondern auch lang. – The exam is not only hard but also long.
Ich möchte entweder früh oder spät lernen. – I want to study either early or late.
Fun German Words for September
In German, September is… September! (Same spelling, but pronounced “zep-TEM-ber”.)
Here are three words that feel very June 2026:
🌸 Frühlingsgefühle – “spring feelings”; that happy, light, energetic mood spring brings (Frühling = spring, Gefühle = feelings)
😮💨 Erleichterung – relief; how it feels once the orals are done

That’s it for this month’s newsletter.
That’s it for June — it felt so good to land back in your inbox after a few months away. Thank you for your patience, and thank you for being part of this little community. 💛
